When news broke on March 13th that Maryland was going into full shutdown mode, you could feel the air go out of our ex-offender demonstration project funded by the Governor of Maryland. Seriously? Really? After a year of planning and hard work, it was all going to go up in smoke because of a pandemic? No way! We persevered! (The Governor will be very proud.)
Open Door America has received a major grant from the State of Maryland to help fund a prisoner reentry partnership with the Howard County Department of Corrections. Since summer 2019, ODA has been working "behind the walls" with HCDC staff to identify the 20 best-suited candidates for this groundbreaking reentry project.
On February 25, 2020 Howard County Executive Calvin Ball announced that Ellicott City nonprofit Open Door America has received a major grant from the State Maryland to partner with the Howard County Department of Corrections in 2020.
